Amalfi Coast

This past weekend 3 friends and I went to the Amalfi coast, which is the southwest coast of Italy that includes Capri (an island), Positano (a beautiful beach town), Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii.

The first day we took a fairy to Capri. Gorgeous. Then we went on a boat tour around the island that included a trip into the Blue Grotto. It was very cool, it looked unreal. You had to take a tiny boat with 3 other people into the grotto and duck on your way in, since the hole to get in was super small.

After our tour, we headed down to the beach. There were two that you could go to, but we chose to go to the one that was farther away but nicer. I was so happy that we did. The walk down to the beach was long but BEAUTIFUL. I swear we doubled our travel time because we kept on stopping to take pictures.

We finally got down to the beach and couldn’t run into the water fast enough. It reminded me a lot of Greece—bright blue water, tall rocks and coves, houses on the side of the mountain.

We spent the rest of the day swimming and jumping off huge rocks. We met these hilarious guys that were doing a law school program in Florence from our trip. They were so much fun, we ended up hanging out with them for the rest of the trip. When we got back to the hotel, we pretty much went straight to dinner. It was some good food, definitely needed after a long day of sun. We went out that night and it was great. The bar we went to had red and green lazers everywhere, so you know it had to be goodJ

The next day we went to a town called Positano and essentially had the entire day free to do what we wanted. We hung on the beach for a lot of the day, went shopping, ate good food and limoncello granitas (kind of like slushies, but 100000 times better). We also rented a huge boat for 2 hours with 16 of us on the boat. It was the best part of the day. Oh, except for the part that I got stung by a jellyfish. That kind of sucked. But the sting looked really badass.

I was about to get peed on by one of my friends, but the captain had ammonia so I used that instead. It still hurt pretty bad, but once I put it in the sun it felt a lot better. Turns out two of my other friends got stung that day too, making 75% of us jellyfish victims. Or just plain badasses. You decide.

We jumped off cliffs, swam, hung on the boat, explored caves, and climbed on rocks. It was very liberating. Amazing afternoon.

We went out again that night to celebrate one of my friends 21st birthday. Nuff said. The next day we went to Pompeii and Vesuvius. Pompeii was HUGE, something I wasn’t expecting. We had a tour guide so we learned a ton about everything. We even got to visit a whorehouse, visual menu included. Let your imagination wander.

After purchasing some delish Pompeii limoncello, we headed to hike Vesuvius. Mind you, it was about a billion degrees and we were going to hike a mountain. We did get pretty cool walking sticks though, so that made up for part of it. Plenty of sweat was involved. But totally worth it. The view was incredible, almost looked like it wasn’t real.

After totally dominating Vesuvius, we headed back on the 7 hour trip to Florence. A wonderful weekend. As all of you know, I am quite the sun lover so this weekend was basically my heaven. Add in some boats, Vesuvius and Pompeii, and I am one happy camper.

Next weekend is Malta, so until then, ARRIVEDERCI!
